EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION:

Early Education focus includes partnerships with ChildCareGroup to provide the highest quality Early Care and Education to 56 children, ages 0 to 3, and South Dallas Fair Park’s Faith Coalition Breakfast and Books to provide Saturday tutoring to more than 60 Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. By leveraging our partnerships, DBC is helping to bring the vocabulary of children living in poverty on par with children from middle and professional income homes.

DBC’s Goal: children reading on grade level by 4th grade.

FOOD SECURITY:

10,000 pounds of food is distributed to 350 vulnerable households in the Food Desert of South Dallas each month through DBC.

COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT:

Over 300 neighbors lead DBC programs and engage volunteers from DFW Metroplex companies and churches.

SATURDAY BREAKFAST:

120 children and adults join together for breakfast, tutoring, fine arts classes, nutrition classes, and community gardening.

STARBRIGHT CONCERT:

Last February, 65 children of South Dallas shared their dancing, singing, and miming talents with over 500 guests from around DFW. Supported by a community choir, StarBright is the annual opportunity to applaud DBC’s children and families for the giant strides they are making in life.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

More than 250 different community organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and churches from the greater Dallas area intentionally partner with DBC to provide countless opportunities for community engagement and empowerment.

MENTORS AND ACTIVITIES:

Mentors and activities for school age children are provided by the Dallas Police Athletic League (DPAL) in DBC’s gym, computer lab, and meeting space. Some of these programs include robotics, bicycle safety and riding club, choir, and basketball.

Community Empowerment

10,000 POUNDS OF FOOD:

Each month, 10,000 pounds of food is distributed at DBC by working with our partner in food security, Crossroads Community Services. At 12.5 cents per pound, your gift to DBC goes a long way in making sure children are fed each day.

Literacy
Saturday Breakfast

LITERACY:

Rae’s Volleyball program teaches school age girls literacy, reading, and volleyball skills. While half are on the court playing, the other half become literate through mind expanding classes in the computer lab.

Starbright Concert

COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT:

All of DBC’s programs engage both the surrounding community and the greater DFW community in pulling together and learning from one another. The 300 plus volunteers from the neighborhood work together with other outside volunteers to lead programming. By working together, both groups learn and grow with each other’s help.

PERSONAL CHANGE:

Glenda Johnson, also known as Cookie’s day care due to her many grandchildren, grand nieces and nephews following her around, was once inside her house, unengaged in the community. When DBC began to build the community garden, Glenda and the kids found a new love. Now Glenda is one of the main leaders of the community garden team. Watch the video to hear more of her story.

DPAL bikes

SUCCESS READINESS:

The 400 backpacks and 250 bikes provided in partnership with the Dallas Police Athletic League (DPAL) and our covenant church sponsors are creating a game changer for more than 350 children in South Dallas. They are prepared to learn with backpacks full of school supplies and bicycles, and receive training for transportation and health.

SUMMER CAMP:

60 children were fed breakfast, lunch and snacks while safely engaged in literacy, arts, robotics, swimming, sports. and 3 educational field trips over the summer months.

5 staff members serve the DBC community every day to facilitate the empowerment of South Dallas children and families. VOLUNTEERS:

The DBC formula for programming success in South Dallas includes the engagement of community volunteers, training them for leadership of the programs, and inviting DFW to come and work with our inside volunteers to strengthen all. More than 300 volunteers are engaged throughout the year inside and outside of South Dallas.
